Transparency Report

Blader Union operates in full transparency with nearly everything we do. We publish quarterly reports between the 5th and 8th every 3 months documenting the internal metrics on our site, current funding, current payments, and other miscellaneous information.  We display our funding numbers to show backers and supporters just where every single dollar amount goes. No more black holes, no more money pits. Full transparency. The days of money hemorrhaging out of the industry in unknown directions are over. Every dollar you contribute is routed back into the hands of real athletes, real professionals, and real skaters.

Quarter 2, 2018

Finance

  • Patreon Backers - 38

  • Current Funding level - $193 per month

  • Quarterly Funding payout - $562.19 after PayPal/Patreon costs

  • Lifetime funding - $1,399.56 since June 2017

  • Projects paid out this quarter - 2

  • Amount of funding paid - $652.08

  • Remaining balance in account - $479.66

With quarter 2's report, lets breakdown some of the cost associated with where our funding was spent over the last 3 months. The first thing we did was purchase our trade booth space at Winterclash 2018. With the fortunate luck of having Vibralux Denim onboard and getting the last possible booth space from Jojo, we secured our seat for a split cost of $200. I payed the wire transfer personally (on time $40 fee) from my own pocket, and AJ transferred me back the funds from his half. The next thing we did was connect with Vistaprint to get our materials for the trade show booth in a rush order. 500 high gloss, front and back business cards and a drop cloth with a custom QR code on it, and the materials for 500+ vinyl stickers came out to $119.08. Trying to save money, I cut and prepped all 500 stickers at home which took several days before the trip. We also invested into the Truspin Podcast this last quarter for $150. The amount of material coming out of there has decreased so we are working on a new term of our sponsorship with them. The last investment we dove into was funding Miguel's surgery for his back. We took our entire fund pool from last month and poured it into his go fund me. $183 of your support went directly into helping Miguel cover medical expenses and get better without the stress of bill collectors hounding over him. My trip to Europe was 100% funded by myself. My lodging, flight, food, and train travel was all out of pocket expenses and nothing of your contributions went to anything except what is listed above. If you are a patron subscriber, we have some additional information to disclose to you about an upcoming project and a very exciting change to our overall function.

In January we shift focus from the previous quarter of "let it ride" to pushing heavy on driving traffic and participation. Our numbers reflect that push with a nearly 200% increase of traffic, and heavy gains in all social fronts. We also finally found the format to launch the #BladeCast after a 2.5 year journey find the best way to get it published. Our Youtube channel is now being tracked as we actively are updating content weekly along side our site. We also published 9 original pieces for the site over the last quarter, and already have one launched for this quarter with many more arriving soon. Plenty of excitement on the horizon, but we've been burned a number of times by deadlines that never came, and projects on hold indefinitely. We're no longer going to promise projects that aren't ready for delivery. If you see it announced from us, it's a 100% that it will be dropping shortly after.

Quarter 1, 2018

Finance

  • Patreon Backers - 32

  • Funding level - $143 per month

  • Funding payout - $136.65 after PayPal/Patreon costs

  • Lifetime funding - $945.93 since June 2017

  • Projects paid out this quarter - 1

  • Amount of funding paid - $150

  • Remaining balance in account - $543.26

We are now shifting focus from our month to month reports, to an industry standard quarterly report. Over the last 4 months we have had a few projects slips between our fingers, but kept our heads high and continue to push growth. Our sponsorship of the great content available on the Truspin Podcast continues into the new year. We have backed them for the last several months, and are working on what that future might look like continuing forward. Also expected this quarter is BUCF#2 and our backing of Winterclash 2018.

We took a step back from analytics over the last quarter and just let this ride out to see where we got. Overall traffic was slow till late November/Early December. We have made some changed to our traffic overview, and are focusing more and more on new in house created content. Be on alert for BUCF#2, a new big wheels article, new interview about an upcoming video release, announcements about Patreon patron projects, and more.

September, 2017

  • Patreon Backers - 29 (-1 backer)

  • Funding level - $141 per month (+$10 m/o)

  • Funding payout - $116.69 after PayPal/Patreon costs

  • Projects paid out this month - 1

Special notes: We successfully sponsored No Pain No Gain for $100 raised by all of our backers. We also recored an upcoming podcast with Truspin and partnered with them on two upcoming podcasts with Dave Paine (Videogroove). I've been in email contact with a small group of professionals for the next Crowd Funded, though the process has been slow. I'm looking forward to announcing the next project shortly. Lastly, Travis will be on site at this upcoming Winterclash. If you are international, do not hesitate to say hello when you see him rocking the upcoming Winter line of Blader Union apparel (announcing and full details, holiday this year).

Special Notes: This month had become a train wreck for the both of us behind the scenes, and for the sole sake of transparency I'm telling you this. I hired a peer at work and have been head deep in training him. This coupled with purchasing my first home (currently in process), handling funding a project, recording a podcast with Truspin, and Dan head deep in his own work, we haven't had the bandwidth to devote to the site as we wished we did. Though I'm still very much involved in the home purchase, my trainee is well on his way solo, so my time is again freeing back up. Expect a very heavy resurgence for this month with some lower churn out right at and after the turn of the month. Though we should have plenty to keep us rolling without me behind the wheel for a few days, just setting correct expectations.

August, 2017

Finance

  • Patreon Backers - 30 (+2 New Subscribers)

  • Funding level - $131 per month (+$10 m/o)

  • Funding payout - $125.02 after PayPal/Patreon costs

  • Projects paid out this month - 0

  • Amount of funding paid - $0

  • Remaining balance in account - $244.80

Special notes: July saw a project completely fail on us behind the scenes. Our two parties involved couldn't find a happy medium to make ends meet for all our backers and their company. No hard feelings in the least. For the month of August we will be supporting the Truspin Podcast and No Paine No Gain II (contest). Be on the lookout for more information coming in the next 24 hours!

Special Notes: In month 3 we pushed our social media presence forward with a large push into Instagram and reposting. The payoff was larger interactions and engagement in our posts. We also featured exclusive edits with Patrick and Brandon Andersen  and our own NWST edit. We also launched the new Razors Shifts from our platform first before anyone else had the story.

  • Funding payout - $119.78 after PayPal/Patreon costs

Special notes: We successfully grew to over $100 backing per month, and topped 25 subscribers. Funding was payed out to Eugen for his finished Crowd Funded project. We did not have a project for the month of June, and are looking to announce our project for the month of July shortly.

Special Notes: With month number 2 we aggressively sought after wrapping up projects and pushing out footprint further out. With that, our home grown content suffered. We are working on Crowd Funded #2 currently, and are working on a number of home grown pieces for this month. Overall traffic was spiked on the day we dropped Crowd Funded #1. We need to find a way to consistently capture that.

Special notes: This was our first month in operation. Thank you to the 13 individuals who took a gamble with us and backed our site. We are expecting to ship the Eugen Enin Crowd Funded project to him tomorrow, and will be paying out the entire balance in our account to him directly. We have not made that payment yet, which is why it is not reflected above. We are already working on our next project and will be announcing it in the coming weeks.

Special Notes: Our first month was spent trying to build our viewership and social networking. For the sake of transparency, our traffic was about 25% lower than our target, but as more people begin picking up on our site it's getting is us closer and closer to our target. We will have more traffic information at a later date.
