Hailing from the sunny shores of Southern California, San Diego's Russell Day has had some of the best torque souls and TTPs of anyone to grace inline skating. With a number of video profiles and photos over the last decade, it culminated with his signature Adapt Stealth pro skate that dropped just last summer. Now that he's wrapped up filming for the forth coming Adapt team video, we had a chance to catch up and talk about all aspects of his life. The Adapt team video will be available on 1/29/2018 for digital download. Photography by Adam Szymański
(Travis) Lets get the basics out of the way. Who are you, how old are you, and where are you from?
(Russell) Russell Day, 31 years young, from San Diego, CA
(T) How long have you been in SD for?
(R) Lived here in paradise my whole life.
(T) Lucky! Haha. What was your first pair of aggressive skates?
(R) After some CCM hockey skates from a thrift store i got some Daytona 6 in lieu of the CI-5 not being in stock in my size
(T) I believe the first time I saw you skate was in Humble Beings. Was that your first video profile?
(R) The first video I was ever in was my crew video called Undefined which featured kids from all over SoCal but mainly people from north and south San Diego. I havent seen that video in years. Humble beings was probably one of my favorite sections for sure, love my norcal fam.
(T) So lets get closer to present day. You've been riding adapts for a few years now. How do you feel the product has evolved?
(R) Evolution is basically what Adapt is all about. Every skate I have had the privilege to try has outdone the last. Pieter is like a mad scientist when it comes to rollerblades.
(T) What is or was your favorite product they've made?
(R) I love the buckle protectors so much. That little piece helps your skates last that much longer and adds a little pop.
(T) Let's talk about your pro skate as well. First off, congrats in a big way. I love the simple and basic color way it comes in. Was there ever a secondary color scheme you might've used?
(R) The only other option in my mind was a gray stripe that i wanted to integrate but it didnt come to fruition the way I envisioned it. I love the way they turned out especially the colors.
(T) Was there anything you'd do differently on a second pro skate?
(R) Maybe a cool graphic on the back or something like that. I think the simplicity is what makes them so great.
(T) You were in Europe quite a bit from the videos and updates I was seeing. Give us an outline of the trips.
(R) First trip to Netherlands/France/Germany was amazing, we stopped by Shred Colonge for a good time. Then Cavin and the crew came and stayed with me. Then we had a team trip to Paris. Best times. Too many laughs.
(T) Was this your first time over seas?
(R) Yes, it was. Fell in love with Amsterdam haha
(T) Do you have any moments you remember more fondly than others from the trip?
(R) Countless moments, but skating around with the whole Adapt Fam in the streets of Paris to end up at the Eiffel Tower for my first time.... amazing. And karting with Pieter and the team for what he calls "team building", while he laps us lol
(T) What can we expect to see from you in the Adapt video?
(R) Little bit of this, little bit of that. I'm not one to kiss and tell.
(T) What are you most excited for in 2018?
(R) I'm just kind of going with the flow, waiting for the next adventure.
(T) So what's next for Russell Day?
(R) Lots more work now that the video is done filming haha. Been taking alot of time off and now it's time to adult and relax a bit.
(T) Thanks Russell! Get back to that time off. I know I'm really looking forward to your profile in the new video.
